This is very well written, easy to understand, beautiful photos, has small projects you can do, and is just an all around great reference book. I know there are other “quilting bibles “ out there, but this one is the best one I’ve came across. I find myself going back to reference this book again and again. Buy it, you will not be disappointed, it explains everything!

I have a few quilts under my belt but I still look things up to help me achieve the best results on my projects. I''m picky and I hate ripping out! The Quilter''s Bible puts everything I need in one book. For me, this comprehensive manual is an essential for my quilting-book library. In my opinion, it covers all the quilting tools and techniques that I will ever need. In fact, there are methods that I''ve never seen before. I cannot praise and recommend this resource enough! Thank you, Linda Clements!

The "Look Inside" feature is helpful in giving a clue about what is contained in this book but it is only a teaser of what you can expect within its 256 pages! Check out the table of contents to aid you in determining the topics covered.

To enable the novice quilter, or anyone really, get set up for quilting, the book begins by outlining the basic tools and equipment needed for quilting. Clements lists a "Basic Tool Kit," which specifies 20 must-haves. With the exception of a sewing machine and its accessories, all can be obtained at a well-stocked craft/fabric store or quilt shop. If like me, you live in an area that has little to offer in this regard, I have had good luck obtaining a couple things I''ve needed (actually I''ve seen all of the recommended items) here on Amazon. **I don''t know about sewing machines found on Amazon*** Every tool in the "kit" is explained in detail to help in choosing the right ones. Rest assured, there is complete coverage of: fabric selection; 26 patchwork techniques; 16 forms of applique; 17 quilting methods; six finishing techniques; and suggestions for further reading. Some of the techniques that I have never seen or heard of are: Seminole patchwork, Bargello patchwork, Shisha applique, Sashiko quilting, and Kantha quilting; all are interesting and beautiful.

A really neat bonus are the "Make It Now" segments. These are useful projects, which allow me to practice techniques. There are 13 projects to create, using the following skills: English paper piecing; hand sewing; adding trim; log cabin blocks; machine quilting; mitered borders; binding; Seminole patchwork; prairie points; fusible applique; crazy patchwork; decorative embroidery stitches; puffed patchwork; yo-yos; gathered edging; needle-turn applique; big stitch quilting; simple bag making; piecing squares; blanket stitch edging; hand quilting; binding; bias strip applique; bagging-out; making hang loops; marking a quilt pattern; whipped big stitch; French knots; and Sashiko quilting.

There are literally hundreds of photos and diagrams. All the instructions are written in clear and easy to understand language. The samples of quilts illustrating the various techniques are gorgeous and inspiring.

But lots of the info was about paper piecing, patchwork, “crafty-things”and cushions, which I wasn’t really interested in. The directions are helpful but you need to be somewhat experienced to follow. Will keep as reference.

An absolutely brilliant book for beginners and more expert quilters alike. I loved the wealth of information, the simple diagrams of block sets, the little tips scattered throughout the book. I''m not an expert but found this book to have been something I needed from the beginning! The charts at the back of the book were useful although I did find one or two slightly confusing. My only caveat is the colour of the printed text - a little bit pale against the white page, being grey rather than black, and a little difficult to read. I am a bit older and I wear glasses but I think the younger quilting community will have no trouble. For me though, it means I have to have the right conditions to read it in.

I made my first quilt (for a baby) in mid-August using a pattern and instructions from the Reader''s Digest Complete Guide to Sewing. Having enjoyed the process immensely but struggled with some of the smaller piecing and getting my domestic machine (normally used for dressmaking and making curtains) to behave while I quilted the project I felt that I needed a detailed guide to help me with future projects. After searching through Amazon I quickly came on this guide and based on the many positive reviews I bought the paperback version. I do not regret my choice and can only add my praise and humble thanks to Linda Clements for writing such a clear, well laid out, detailed and beautiful book. There is a lot of information here for beginners and intermediate quilters and I do think that even expert quilters would find the book useful as a reference book. There are lots of pictures and diagrams on every page to help you visualise and understand techniques and simply drool at some of the fantastic things (not just quilts) that people have made. It has provided me with much inspiration, I want to start about 6 different quilts right away there are so many techniques that I could use! Since I bought the book about a month ago I''ve read it and referred to it every single day since to improve my understanding and quilting skills. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who is a quilter or wants to be one.

Before purchasing this book I carefully read through the reviews. Now I have my own copy which I have perused from cover to cover. This is definitely a book for beginners onwards. Illustrations, descriptions etc are in plain English which can be a weak point with some crafts books. Techniques are fully covered and if you are worried about squares - They crop up all over the place in this book especially on Page 62 As you become more experienced the book even encourages you to use digital photography so as to have pictures of what you are doing at different stages. All elements of the Quilters world are covered, getting started, patchwork, appliqué, quilting and finishing off. You''ll find advice, guidance on just about every aspect from tools to fabrics, templates, design, hand/machine sewing etc. You''ll also find some handy projects to try out. Extremely comprehensive and worthy of a place on any crafters bookshelf
