Description

Product Description

Join Whit and Wisty on a magical quest to defeat the villain, once and for all, who has devastated their world.

Whit and Wisty Allgood have sacrificed everything to lead the resistance against the merciless totalitarian regime that governs their world. Its supreme leader, The One Who Is The One, has banned everything they hold dear: books, music, art, and imagination. But the growing strength of the siblings'' magic hasn''t been enough to stop The One''s evil rampage, and now he''s executed the only family they had left.

Wisty knows that the time has finally come for her to face The One. But her fight and her fire only channel more power to this already invincible being. How can she and Whit possibly prepare for a showdown with the ruthless villain that devastated their world-before he can truly become all-powerful?

In this stunning third installment of the epic, bestselling Witch & Wizard series, the stakes have never been higher-and the consequences will change everything.

From Booklist

The first two entries in the series, Witch & Wizard (2009) and The Gift (2010), were slapdash, hackneyed affairs involving hastily thrown-together characters and a generically totalitarian future government headed by the evil The One. Thankfully, this apparent conclusion benefits from having to tie together the various threads, resulting in a tighter, more coherent story line. With the teen Resistance in tatters, magical siblings Whit and Wisty are forced to split up to achieve two seemingly impossible goals: save their maybe-not-dead-after-all parents from the Shadowland and destroy The One once and for all. Though the duo’s endless array of powers (healing, creating food, morphing bodies, reading minds, shooting flame, freezing people in place) drains most of the tension from otherwise decently constructed action scenes, Patterson’s trademark short chapters at least keep things swift. Meanwhile, the series hits its highest point of interest when it finally gives a glimpse into the childhood of The One. A better-than-expected ending to a by-the-numbers trilogy. We can hope it’s a trilogy, anyway. HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: Patterson, one of the best-selling authors of all time, is review-proof. The first two volumes set the tone: heavy advertising, graphic-novel supplementation, best-seller lists. Expect the same. Grades 6-9. --Daniel Kraus

Welcome to your worst nightmare,
or maybe one you can''t even imagine.
A world where everything has changed.
There are no books, no movies,
no music, no free speech.
Everyone under eighteen is distrusted.
You and your family could be taken
away and imprisoned at any time.
Your very being is expendable,
even unwanted.

What world is this? Where could
something like this have happened?
That''s hardly the point.

The point is that it DID happen.
It''s happening to us right now.
And if you don''t stop and pay attention,
it could happen in your world next.

Recommended to:
Young adults and adults who enjoy fantasy & magic. An edge of your seat book. There is some violence & death and a bit of nail biting action.

My thoughts:
Once again we are plunged into the world of Whit & Wisty Allgood, the Witch and Wizard. They are learning to control their powers and continuing to lead the resistance in the fight against The One Who is The One. They are fighting for the future of their world, while the New Order (N.O.) is brainwashing and torturing children to turn them into killing machines. The stakes are higher than ever and Whit & Wisty are in more danger than ever.

This is a great series, lots of adventure & danger and twists & turns. Like all Patterson books, the chapters are short and fly by. I finished this book in one day.

My Review:
Whisty is a red-headed firecracker who, literally, bursts into flame...well, that''s because she is a witch. Her brother, Whit, just happens to be a wizard and these two siblings have been kicking ass and taking names since the first book, Witch & Wizard. Unfortunately, this story starts to go down hill...fast. As for the next two books after The Fire, I won''t say that they were a waste of time BUT they WERE extremely predictable. I am glad I stuck things out and completed the series because I did enjoy rooting for my favorite rebels but I am disappointed in the overall outcome.

Personal Note (contains spoilers):
When you are constantly placing your main characters in the midst of turmoil, heartbreak, and war...give them SOME slack. Not only are they dealing with outside forces of evil, they fight amongst their own city dwellers. While we are on the subject what the HELL is wrong with the members of this society. Can we say ungrateful much? Our heroes have saved their precious city on MULTIPLE counts and yet they are STILL treated with degradation. It''s totally unbelievable. Time and time again they vote for horrible representatives and still wonder what went wrong. Furthermore, they continually blame their city''s saviors for their city''s demise. Ugh. Okay. I get it. You could easily say that Patterson is holding a mirror to our society and reflecting some of our own mistakes within his words but this is a young adult series that is a little too dark as it is, let''s give our idols some time off from fighting the good fight. Maybe they could go on a picnic for crying out loud. Even Harry got to sit down by the Hogwart''s lake for a refreshing break from the craziness HE was dealing with.

Overall I really liked the book. It kept you on your toes and was really hard to put down as most of Patterson''s books are.

"The Fire" is the third installment to James Patterson''s Witch and Wizard series, and magical YA story about teenage brother and sister Whit and Wisty Allgood, the two people who have been prophecied to save the world from the evil One Who Is The One. The One has taken away everything we love, music, imagination, art, and magic has been outlawed. With their parents dead, their friends in the resistance dead or scattered, and Wisty sick with the blood plague, victory over The One seems like a pipe dream. The two must dig deep and hone their powers if they will ever be triumphant.

No worries, no plotline spoilers in this review.
This book did not become an intense read until about 55 percent of the way through. It seemed like the first half dragged on and on. It is almost like a different author wrote the second half of the book. I am an adult and have read many books, and seem irritated by a few things with these books. The first is that sometimes random things happen that cannot be explained, or characters act in a way that would be completely inaccurate. If I put myself in the situation the characters are in, there are things I would NOT do that the characters have a knack for doing. There''s a point of the book where some of the characters (don''t want to be a spoiler) get out of a tricky situation, and out of the blue Mrs. Highsmith who was thought to be dead or missing from the previous book appears. ...SO RANDOM. Where the heck did she come from? Hello writers block.
If you are an adult you may be annoyed by stuff like this if you read a lot and have high expectations out of what you read. This book does have graphic moments that may scare pre-teens.

The second half of the book was truly great. It was intense, and they separated Whit and Wisty on seperate missions so it kept the readers attention more with the constant shift in narrators. I also felt the second half to be unpredictable. Sometimes books like these for the younger generation can be predictable. It is not like I was thinkiing "WOW! I didn''t see that coming!" because I really did see some obstacles the characters were faced with coming, but the way they got out of challenges were a mystery. The conclusion of the book is NOT summarized in one chapter like some other reviewers suggusted. I felt it was spread out across a few chapters. Just when I thought it would end..behold!...A couple more pages...and a couple more...

If you read the other books, you will feel obligated to read this book. And you will probably regret it the first half of the book. Hang in there, because it gets better.

Have at it because I don''t think you''ll be disappointed. I won''t bore you with a plot summary as I know other reviewers are fond of doing that. I''m glad there is one more book to go, but even that seems too short of a series like this, for me. I still love the characters. I can''t wait to read the next one and I hope you love this series as much as I do.

This was recommended to me by a friend. I think it is meant to be a children''s book. It seemed to be written on a more elementary level. She raved about it but for me, not so much. I think she was enthralled with the analogies, but there are many more adult books out there that do that. Even a lot of the children''s books I''ve read are written for a bit more advanced level. But that may just be my personal perceptions. Like art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Last Christmas, I was given the second book in the series (Witch & Wizard: The Gift) without knowing anything about the series, and I loved it. So I bought the first book in the series (Witch & Wizard) and I thought that was great as well. So I thought I''d buy the third, and final, book. I''ll start [the second paragraph] by saying this is just as good as the other two books - and that''s high praise. One noticeable thing that makes this book different to many others is the short chapter length - they''re usually a couple of pages long, and this means the books usually end with over 100 chapters. This can be seen as annoying or useful - I personally think it''s great for remembering where you stopped reading (if you ever manage to put the book down!). As with the previous books, some chapters are written by Wisty, some by Whit (they''re the main characters and are brother and sister). It can be annoying when many chapters (a.k.a. several pages) are written by one character, but otherwise it''s ok. The plot itself is very, very good. The evil guy - The One - is portrayed evilly and very well. I''d never like to meet him! The detail is also fantastic - when little kids have their skin peeled off it makes you cringe. Basically, this book is a must read for anyone aged about 10-17. That''s just a recommendation, though - people of all ages are likely to enjoy it at least a bit. If you''ve read the other books, make sure you read this one. If you haven''t, then try and start with the other two, but if you don''t, this will still introduce you to the series very well.

I''ve always enjoyed James Patterson novels, reading some of them at quite a young age. I got a copy of the first of these novels for christmas about 3 years ago, as my friend got it free with a newspaper, on a deal with WHSmith. Knowing that I loved to read books, my friend passed it on. I think I read it in about 3 hours flat, maybe less, and immediately wanted the next book. And so when said book appeared on kindle, I broke into the gift voucher my brother had given me, and bought this. All I can say is that there''s always something waiting for you when you turn the page. This slightly dystopian novel, makes you laugh, makes you cry, and shocks you right until the last page. It''s one of the series that I re-read when I have a few hours on my hands. Money worth spending!
